Kathmandu. Newly appointed IGP Dheeraj Pratap Singh said that the police personnel should be determined to make the security arrangements more efficient with high vigilance, sensitivity and importance to conduct the local elections in a fair, fearless and safe manner.

In a virtual video conference held at the Police Headquarters on Saturday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Singh addressed the Chiefs of the State Police Offices, Chiefs of the District Police Offices and Chiefs of the Valley and State Traffic Police Offices.

Stating that the election should be taken as an opportunity to demonstrate one’s professionalism in order to conduct the election in a fair and fearless manner, Inspector General of Police Singh said that all police officers and youths working for the security of the election should take responsibility with fearlessness and professionalism.

Talking about the excellent work being done by the Nepal Police despite limited resources in election-targeted activities, he stressed on the need to move ahead by formulating necessary security plans, strategies and co-operating with other security agencies to address the challenges that may arise in the coming days.

Stating that the security arrangements would be more effective when the necessary security plan is formulated according to the specificity of each state, Inspector General of Police Singh said that all the state police offices should coordinate and cooperate with each other following the successful practices of the past.

He said that the office bearers should brief the police officers and youths deployed for the security of the election about their responsibilities and take legal action to prevent any possible incident during the election.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Singh said that more efforts should be made to control criminal activities including smuggling in the border areas, adding that those involved in criminal activities should be identified and brought to justice.

The good news, to relieve all this gloom, is that a democracy is inherently self-correcting. Here, the people are sovereign. Inept political leaders can be replaced. Foolish policies can be changed. Disastrous mistakes can be reversed.
